ROUTE I (Heraklion – Anatoli via Kalo Chorio/Prina/Kalamafka)

Twelve km after you left behind Agios Nikolaos you are at the entrance of the village Kalo Chorio (ancient site of Istron). Take a right turn at the sign pointing towards Prina/Kalamafka/Males (villages before and after Anatoli). This is a country road, very picturesque, with slight turns and slops and is narrower than the autoroute.

You pass through the first two villages with signs showing directions. At Kalamafka there is a junction with left turn- sign towards Ierapetra- and right turn towards Anatoli. At about 6 km you arrive at Anatoli. You have reached Anatoli from the higher road, most of the village and all of Dorovinis Houses are at your left hand side.
At the second village crossroad to your left you will see the first sign of Dorovinis Houses pointing towards

SMARAGDA HOUSE and MESOCHORIA KAFENEION (Coffee House): Park your car on widenings of the main road and follow the walkway. At about 50m you reach the junction with the old market street with directions either to the left or to the right. You turn right and at 15m you are at Smaragda House on your left and at “MESOCHORIA KAFENEION” on your right.

You continue on the main road crossing the village and at the end you find yourself at a Y junction with street signs. Straight ahead leads to the next village of Malles, left turn leads towards Ierapetra. You take a left turn, the road takes you downwards and through a long loop outside the village (you can see now the lights of Ierapetra in the background as in an airplane). At the end of this loop (a 360 degree turn of the road) you enter the lower part of the village and the first building you meet, at your left hand side, is the old (in ruins) olive oil refinery. As you reach the old fabrique you see on your left side the second sign of Dorovinis Houses with an arrow pointing left towards

PASIPHAE HOUSE: You leave the main road and take a left turn to a country road all around the old refinery. You follow this road and at about 100m you will see an oblong building at your right hand side, half under road level the old School. You park there . The next stepped walkway to your left takes you to the house.

You continue the main road towards Ierapetra (the village is now hanging above you at your left hand side) and at about 300m you meet the third sign of Dorovinis Houses pointing left towards

KALLIRHOE HOUSE: You take the left turn, leaving the main road, and continue to a narrow sloppy road (leads to the old cemetery). At about 100m you find a plateau – a widening of the road. There you park. If you look up the first, left side, stepped walkway you see the village fountain, and behind it the house (20m).
